We started a mini camping unit today. We started by reading the book A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee, and then broke off into groups to start doing some research on different woodland animals.

Reader’s Workshop Book Club Celebration
The kids did a “museum tour” to take a good look at everyone’s posters which went along with their latest book club book. They left feedback on Post Its for the designer of the poster. Then we met in groups to learn about everyone else’s books.
Preparing for Our Poetry Unit Celebration
Here we are after a lesson on how to edit poetry. Everyone is working hard to prepare one of their poems to read to the class. We read the poems later in the day and offered specific, positive feedback to all.

Book Club Celebration Preparation
We are finishing up our last Reader’s Workshop unit - Series Book Clubs. We have prepared by taking notes down while we’ve read our latest books. Now, we’re using those notes to create posters. We’ll use the posters to meet with others who are reading in different series to share about our books. We’ll also do a “Museum Walk” around the room so that we get to see everyone’s creations.

Junior Achievement Visitor
We are lucky enough to have a visitor from Junior Achievement visit our classroom. She visited today and will be back next Friday. Today they learned about what a community is, what jobs would be important in a community, and what it means to work together. Here they are creating “doughnuts” in their factories and then checking to see which ones would be good enough to sell.

More iReady Testing Fun
It looks like the Test Fairy made another appearance overnight! Besides getting a little something from the Test Fairy, they also got letters of encouragement from one of their classmates (and they wrote a note to themselves as well). They really loved getting their notes from their classmates!
